At the turn of the 20th century, Bisbee was a city bigger than Tucson and Phoenix put together. Almost
25,000 people lived in Bisbee by 1904 The hills around Mule Mountain were covered with a mix of
family homes built by prospering entrepeneurs and miners' shacks that stubbornly refused to fall down.
Copper originally drew folks to the area, and the unique character of the town keeps them coming today.

The saloons of Bisbee ranged from richly appointed clubs to rowdy dives. Brewery Gulch housed both
kinds, but gambling, drinking, fighting and red lights increased the further up the Gulch you went. Today,
the World Famous Brewery Gulch is truly civilized.
Restaurants, galleries and antique stores outnumber the saloons, but there are still several.
